There are five places on the New Fairview City Council. Odd numbered places are elected during the even numbered years. Consequently, the even numbered places, and the Mayor, are elected on odd years. So…. in 2024 Places 1, 3, and 5 are up for election. The window to file as a candidate was January 16 to 5pm on February 17, 2024. Place 1 incumbent Harvey Burger Jr, Place 3 incumbent Sarah Adams, and Place 5 candidate Alisa Scheps are all running unopposed. Due to all candidates running unopposed, the May 4th City General Election has been cancelled in accordance with Texas Election Code, Chapter 2, Subchapter C. On May 6, 2024 May 20, 2024 the unopposed Places 1, 3, and 5 candidates will be declared elected (sworn in) to serve their two year term on the Council.
Place 5 Councilman Richard Green honorably served from November 2022 to May of 2024. His common sense, municipal knowledge, experience, and confident professional decorum will be missed. Fortunately his astute Place 5 replacement, Alisa Scheps, has attended more New Fairview City Council meetings than anyone on the council. So her base knowledge and understanding of the City is unparalleled. Coupled with her law enforcement background and public service attributes I expect Council Member Scheps to be an asset to the Council; contributing profound perspectives, inquisitive tenacity, and fair accountability. Through the years it never ceases to amaze me how each council member is able to contribute unique strengths, abilities, and knowledge to the overall success of the presiding City Council. I know the new 2024 council will continue to build upon the teamwork and respectful culture we have cultivated during the past two years. Again, “Thank you and best wishes” Richard Green, and “Congratulations and Welcome” Alisa Scheps.
