This is a quick brief of the Wise County Mayors Coalition meeting held on September 4, 2024. Special guests Wise County Judge JD Clark and District 12 Texas State Senator Tan Parker. New Fairview Mayor John Taylor was the host.
New Fairview City Administrator John Cabrales gave an encouraging water district progress update. Paradise and Decatur have joined Rhome, Boyd, Aurora, New Fairview, and Wise County as voting members of the proposed water district. A resolution to join the voting membership of the district will soon be on a Alvord City Council agenda. Bridgeport is analyzing viability of joining. Voting membership fee is $10,000.
State Senator Parker expressed his support for the regional water district and detailed the legislative process for State approval.
Boyd Mayor Holmes gave an update about Texas Commission on Environmental Quality “permit application 2421” submitted by Chisholm Trail Disposal, LLC for a 405 acre solid waste landfill located southeast of Boyd on County Road 4668, also known as Bobo Crossing. The Coalition Mayors and Wise County adamantly oppose the landfill. The County passed a resolution of opposition. Southern Wise County cities are also in the process of drafting opposition resolutions.
(I expect surrounding landowners and all downstream residents/entities to oppose and comment to TCEQ. Senator Tan Parker sent a letter to TCEQ requesting a public meeting on the proposal. No hearing date is set but October 2024 is realistic. Below are two images of the proposed landfill location.)
Wise County Judge JD Clark gave a presentation on the TxDOT US 287 Corridor Interstate Feasibility Study and restoration of the Wise County Courthouse update.
