Due to recent Falcon Ridge events and Facebook comments I believe it is timely to repost my perspective-commentary from November 2022 pertaining to the dis-annexation of the Falcon Ridge development from New Fairview.
FALCON RIDGE GONE
“The rationale and purpose of a dis-annexation petition is to sever affiliation from a city by dis-annexation via electorate approval. Dis-annexation is a serious matter with broad ramifications. Unlike a social or policy activist petition a dis-annexation petition is a different animal and is not an effective tool for increasing leverage of your complaint. I suspect this was the hope and goal of some petition signers. Unfortunately a dis-annexation petition is not a last resort of hope. It is an, all hope is gone, I want a divorce, type of petition. When New Fairview verified that the Falcon Ridge petition met Texas State Code requirements it forced the City into a defensive planning position precluding the fruition of Falcon Ridge road and drainage acceptance. During the interim Falcon Ridge perceives being snubbed. I concede the perception. My position was to be wary of potential legal and financial complications; do not expedite, commit, or promise anything before the election. Also I would like to add that with or without a petition I advocated no special treatment or favored consideration towards Falcon Ridge due to its property tax valuation. I believe it is fair and ethical to represent all residents equally regardless of property value. In my opinion the petition was submitted prematurely as change and improvement at City Hall had been implemented. Yet Falcon Ridge did not have the patience nor fortitude to wait. Instead they sought to leave the City as soon as possible. Despite the verified petition and the upcoming Special Election the City did it’s due diligence to ensure code compliance, purchased drainage grade measuring equipment, core sampled roads, and continued the verification process of road and drainage construction compliance in preparation of City ownership acceptance. As a City Council member I am disappointed with the election result and frustrated Falcon Ridge did not give any time to prove that the City is a new and improved version before seeking dis-annexation. Best wishes to all involved on both sides of the fence.” END
That concludes the 2022 repost. Now in 2025 I add this. I took it personally; and still do. I know I shouldn’t, but I do. I still consider the dis-annexation unnecessary, impatient and extremely short-sighted. IF Falcon Ridge would have stayed in the city they could have easily gained a majority control of city council and even had a FR mayor. Then they could’ve managed the city however they deemed best. Instead they chose to leave. Now that’s all I got to say about that.
